SUMMER YELLOWTAIL FISHING
GOES WIDE-OPEN AT L.A. BAY

June 11, 2005, Abraham Vazquez, Camp Gecko, Bahia de los Angeles village report, Baja California, Mexico:

Fishing has gotten wide-open for yellowtail at Bahia de los Angeles (L.A. Bay). There are big schools boiling all over the islands and points. They started coming in Monday in huge schools of up to half a mile boiling fish. It has been wide open behind Horse Head and at Smith Island. I know it sounds like a lie from down south, but it is true. Many yellowtail are 10 pounds in size, but there are also lots of 15 to 25 pounders around. The yellowtail are hitting anything you throw to them and are on the surface at the moment. The weather at Bahia de los Angeles has been nice in the low 80's and 70 at night. One day it went up to 90 degrees. The dominant wind has been out of the west, strong some days. Humidity is 30%. There is lots of bait in the bay, big mackerels and sardines. Hopefully Bahia de los Angeles fishing will hold this good for a while.

The Bahia de los Angeles gas station now has diesel also. The military check point at the entrance of the bay has been removed so you can bring sodas in your ice chest without an 18-year-old kid with an automatic weapon asking for them. The road conditions are great. The biosphere reserve project is being reviewed now officially and the only opposition has been by the state government. They still are involved in the Escalera Nautica project so their agenda is not secret anymore. I just hope they leave my whale sharks alone.
