SOUTHERN BAJA FISHING TRIPS PRODUCE BLUE MARLIN AND STRIPED MARLIN

June 12, 2005, Chuck Meredith, Los Barriles fishing, East Cape, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

I caught 1 blue marlin and 2 striped marlin this week, and no dorado at all. Fishing is very scarce everywhere presently. The cause of the spotty catching we believe to be the cold Pacific currents spilling around the Cabo point and then being pushed along the shoreline out to 20-plus miles from shore. The hot water currents from Panama are kept close the mainland side of Mexico. Only out in the true middle of the Sea Cortez, where the the closest hot water is located, can the full concentrations of fish be continually found. This means offshore 50-plus miles from Los Barriles, East Cape, due East, to find the hot spots. Hot water equals hot spots to fish.
