BAJA PANGA FISHING AT POPOTLA

June 27, 2005, Jose Antonio Sanchez, Popotla, Baja California, Mexico:

Last Saturday, we went fishing from Popotla, Roberto Rosas, Gabriel Ortiz, our boss Takamoto San, and me.

Sculpin fever continues. We caught our limits and also whitefish. We took a panga from Popotla, about 4 km. south of Rosarito, and we went about 8 miles toward the Coronado Island reefs.

The bait was squid and the fishing depth was about 30 to 40 fathoms, as we tried several spots. Also we tried trolling, but had no success on surface pelagics. The locals filleted and took home the poison-spined but tasty sculpin.

Our captain was Juan. I don't know the owner of the panga, but you can arrange fishing trips from Popotla everyday in the morning. I think Popotla is the most casual fishing village in Baja. Just come there and you can easily arrange a fishing trip.
