LOTS OF BAIT FISH SEEN AT FISHING SPOTS OFF ENSENADA

Aug. 19, 2005, Harry Thompson, Ensenada, Mexico Fishing Trip Report:

Fishing off of Glenn Bowers' 26 foot Blackman, "The Reel One," out of Seaforth Marina, Mission Bay, San Diego, were me, Harry Thompson, and Charles Hudak. We left San Diego on Aug. 14 and headed down to the Coral Hotel and Marina out of Ensenada.

On Aug. 15 we headed south about 55 miles on a 185 degree heading and fished an area 15 miles south of the lower 500. The paddies were loaded with bait. Some were loaded with Yellowtail, and others were holding Dorado, but there were no biters.

I dropped a jig down 200 feet and got bit by a 50 pound Opah on the way back up, much to everyone's surprise and delight. Charles Hudak brought in a nice 17 pound Dorado and that was it for the day.

Fishing on Aug. 16, we had better bait and decided to try this area again. Charles Hudak got 2 nice Yellowtail off a paddy early and then despite paddies loaded with fish, no biters until late afternoon. We stopped on a paddy around 4 p.m. and Glenn Bowers landed a very nice 20 pound Yellowtail after which Charles Hudak caught 4 and I landed 1 for a total of 8 nice Yellowtail for the day. We had to cut our vacation short due to boat problems and headed North to San Diego on Aug. 17.

Water temperatures off Ensenada were 70 to 71.5 degrees and the water was deep blue and clear, perfect conditions.
