MAKO SHARK CAUGHT AT ERENDIRA WITH CAPT. MAURICIO

Jan. 24, 2005, Bill Stout, Castro's Camp, Mexico Fishing Trip Report:

I and my amigos from Aliso Viejo, Igor Blushtein and Felix Redkazoub, went fishing at Castro's Camp on Saturday. It was pretty slow. I caught a 4-foot Mako shark. For three guys, we pulled in around 15 Red Snappers and 20 lingcod, a relatively slow day for Castro's Camp.

We stayed in the Castro's Camp cabins and went fishing one day. Mauricio was our captain. We've used him for the last six years or so. I caught the Mako Shark on a leadhead with a rubber pink scampi on it and octopus. We caught most of our fish on blue and white lures or scampi jigs with octopus. There was no squid available. The sea out of Castro's Camp had 4-foot rollers that seemed to stir the bottom and hurt the fishing. Otherwise, it was a beautiful day. The cloud cover was light and disappeared in the afternoon. We fished about 1-1/2 hours north of Castro's Camp, probably 20 miles south of Ensenada.
