FISHING BOATS FIND MULTIPLE RELEASES ON STRIPED MARLIN

May 20, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report:

Striped marlin fishing at Mazatlan really picked up toward the end of the week, with 22 of the 32 striped marlin reported, taken on Friday. It appeared that a strong push of billfish had arrived at Mazatlan as the sportfishing boats were all reporting multiple catches. Aries I reported a 4 billfish day, Aries II a 6 billfish day, Aries III a 3 billfish day, and Aries 4-5-6-7 all had doubles. The inshore fishing action at Mazatlan was also good for bottom fishing, reflecting a wide variety of pargo, roncachos, botetes and cochitos, in easy limit fishing.

Mazatlan's climate was mostly sunny, with temperatures from 68 degree nights to 87 daytime highs.

Sea conditions were nearly calm in the Mazatlan vacation area, with water temperatures ranging from 76 degrees inshore to 78 offshore.

The billfish are getting closer and most of the better billfish action was at the 23-mile mark. Petrolero's remained a hot artificial lure, but the rigged trolling baits were also producing excellent catches.
