BILLFISH ACTION STILL ACTIVE FOR MAZATLAN SPORTFISHING BOATS

July 1, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Mazatlan, Mexico Fishing Report:

The billfish remain fairly active throughout the Mazatlan sportfishing area and the catch ratio remains near 2 per boat day on average. A couple of smaller blue marlin were taken this week, which is a good sign that the summer fishing season at Mazatlan is rapidly creeping upon us in that area.

Mazatlan inshore bottom fishing has been incredible for the red snappers with an easy limit type of bite.

The "Aries I" was the billfish highliner this week, with a 6 billfish day, 5 sailfish and a blue marlin. Overall Aries Fleet catches reflected 2 blue marlin, 7 stripers and 38 sailfish, (33 released) along with 23 yellowfin tuna for 29 fishing days.

Mazatlan fishing climate was 71-90 degrees, Partly cloudy and a little humid. Sea conditions had stable temperatures at 81 degrees, and breezes coming from the SW at about 15 knots. Best Mazatlan fishing area was southwest of Marina El Cid, 22-26 miles. Trolled, rigged baits were very hot on the billfish.
