BOATS CATCH MIXED GAME FISH SPECIES IN OFFSHORE WATERS

July 2, 2004, Kurt Hjort, Esperanza Sportfishing, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Fishing Conditions:

Fishing all this week has been a grab bag of all species and most boats have had good to excellent reports. The week started out with sailfish and dorados at the Marietta island on out to corbetena with deep blue water of 83 degrees. Tunas of school size, to 40lbs, are inside the bay near Yelapa as well as all the offshore banks and structure. Also we saw the first consistant week on the GIANT yellowfins that we are so lucky to have here. A 300lb yellowfin tuna is big and we see alot of them from June until December along with some very big black and blue marlin. Most fish have been taken on live skipjacks as we have giant schools of bait here and it is tough to get them to hit anything else at times.

Weather has been stable but hot, and July should start to see more in the way of afternoon thundershowers. Be advised, just because the weather reports say thunderstorms every-day from now until sept, they are usually in the evenings and most days start sunny and stay that way until the clients are poolside with a margaria recalling their great day of fishing!!! I have just acquired a 25ft Grady White to get ready for the winter season and look forward to serving anyone interested in a trip to Puerto Vallarta.
