WINTER TUNA AND DORADO CAUGHT BY PANGAS OFF LOS CABOS

Jan. 6, 2006, Bob Lewis, San Jose del Cabo sport fishing, Baja, Mexico:

I did fish Tuesday the 6th on Dos Gueros with my son and his friend. We ran from Cabo to the Iman bank area in flat calm water. The air temperatures have been low 80's and the fishing water has turned quite cool around Cabo but warms up as you go east. There is a nice warm pool of 74 to 75 degree water around San Jose del Cabo and it is holding school size tuna and dorado.

We ended the day with 9 tuna and 2 dorado (also mahi-mahi or dolphinfish) and we left them biting.

Bait was hard to come by, and small portions, but the fish were eager to bite until we ran out.

On a side note, I fished in my 13-foot aluminum boat off the beach a couple of days from La Playita. We caught 2 sierra one day and 3 the next in a 2 hour stretch and also 2 small rooster fish. We trolled hoochies and they were working well.
