CABO SAN LUCAS BOATS FINDING THE
BEST DEEP SEA FISHING OFF DESTILADERAS
June 4, 2004, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Gaviota Fleet, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
It continues to be a fairly long run to the billfish, but once you get there, they do seem to want to bite. The "Gaviota IV" was the hot boat for the Gaviota Fleet, with 4 stripers released for 1 fishing day.
It's been an interesting week with some southerly winds and good water temperature increase, but it has yet to stimulate the fishing in the close-by area. The "Fish Cabo" reported for 4 fishing days with 6 stripers released, 1 dorado and 2 red snapper, and the "Juanita VIII", also reporting for 4 fishing days, reflected 4 stripers released, 2 dorado and 2 red snapper. The Gaviota Fleet, reporting for 24 fishing days, reflected 23 stripers, (19 releases) 2 dorado, 3 yellowfin tuna and 1 skipjack.
Cabo San Lucas Climate: Warming up to hot, with temps ranging from low 70's at night to high 90's in daytime.
Cabo San Lucas Sea Conditions: A couple of rough & windy days in early week, temps climbing upward and now ranging from about 71 close to Cabo to 76 at the Gordo Banks and even warmer on up toward Frailes.
Best Fishing Area: Best billfish catches continued to come from the Destiladeras area
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was best for the most part, but some fish were being taken on the mackerel colors.
Live bait supply: Good, mostly caballitos.
