ABOUT ONE-THIRD OF CABO SAN LUCAS BOATS
SCORING BILLFISH AS THE FULL MOON APPROACHES
July 31, 2004, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico Fishing:
Looks like 1 out of every 3 Cabo San Lucas fishing boats is connecting with a billfish, as we come into the full moon. Maybe with the change of the moon we will see some change with the fish bite?
Cabo San Lucas dorado are scattered about with just an occasional fish being taken here & there and mostly in the 20-25 lb. ranges.
Yellowfin tuna are helping to round out the catch if you are lucky enough to find the porpoise.
Water temperatures are surely good enough and there is a lot of live bait (feed biomass) availability, but the for whatever reason, the game fish haven't responded for more than a short period of time.
Overall catches for 30 fished days reflected 10 stripers, (9 released) 2 mako sharks, 6 dorado and 40 yellowfin tuna, along with a single wahoo, ("Gaviota VII").
Cabo San Lucas Climate: 77-97, mostly sunny days
Cabo San Lucas Sea conditions: Warm waters, ranging from 80 at the Jaime Bank to 83 at the Gordo Banks
Best Cabo San Lucas fishing area: From the Jaime around to the 95 Fathom Spot
Best Lure/Bait: Not reported
Live bait supply: Remained good, even with the oncoming full moon, (all caballitos)
The Fish Cabo Office was working day & night to get their office up & running again and have already replaced phone lines, office equipment and were fully operational by Thursday. The complete job is not done, but they are fully operational at the office.
The "Juanita VIII" reporting for 4 fishing days reflected 3 stripers released and 3 big dorado, while the "Fish Cabo" had cruise & snorkel charters for the week.
