A GOOD WEEK FOR CABO SAN LUCAS SMALL GAME FISH ACTION
Aug. 19, 2004, Benjamin Ortega, Solmar Fleet, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur fishing, Mexico:
For Cris Johansen, who came all the way from Sweden to fish Cabo's abundant waters, he got what he paid for, like 27 yellowfin tuna, one wahoo and four dorado, all taken on live mackerel and bonito. Cabo San Lucas Fishing Location: Off the San Jose del Cabo. What boat: The Solmar II. His comment: "The best fishing in a long time."
And then there's the two blue marlin -- both released -- and 11 yellowfin taken by Mr. Thayer (no last name provided) of Utah certainly qualifies him to bragging rights for the day in Cabo San Lucas and for a long time back home. He made his catch aboard the Solmar IV.
This obviously was a week for the small game fish angler, with excellent catches reported by many Solmar boats. Examples:
The five Cabo San Lucas yellowtail and 15 yellowfin taken on mackerel and a purple-colored lure by Dave Stephenson of Camarillo, Calif. off Pozo Cota aboard the Solmar VII;
Three Cabo San Lucas dorado, six yellowfin and one wahoo by Ed and Barbara (no last name provided) of San Jose, Calif. on the San Lucas V at The 95 Spot;
Eight yellowfin, two dorado and eight skipjack by Paul Goldenbogan of Colorado Springs, Colo. at the Faro Viejo Banks;
Seventeen yellowfin and seven dorado by California angler A. Alexandrovich on mackerel and a yellow jig while fishing the Faro Viejo on the Solmar IV;
A sailfish and dorado by Christine Seizer of Yuba City, Calif. from the San Lucas V at the 95 Spot.
Benito Peralta of the San Lucas V won Captain of the Week honors for the seven striped marlin, 13 dorado, 14 yellowfin tuna and seven skipjack his passengers caught in five outings.
Total catch for the week included 18 striped marlin, six released; six blue marlin, all released, six sailfish, two released, 74 yellowfin tuna, 23 skipjack, 19 yellowtail, seven wahoo and 72 dorado.
