A STEADY PICK OF MARLIN, YELLOWFIN TUNA,
AND DORADO FOR SOLMAR FLEET ANGLERS THIS WEEK
Aug. 19-25, 2004, Benjamin Ortega, Solmar Fleet, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
Whether it's marlin, yellowfin tuna or those colorful dorado, there continues to be enough of them to satisfy most anglers fishing Cabo San Lucas waters.
One of them was Costa Mesa, Calif. angler Steve Johansen. And rightly so. His one-day catch, fishing off San Jose del Cabo aboard the Solmar II: two striped marlin and one yellowfin.
And then there's the Watson family from Seattle, Wash. They took turns battling a striped marlin and a lone dorado, winning in each instance. They worked the 95 Bank aboard the Cabo San Lucas fishing boat Solmar III. Manuel Diaz of Sacramento, Calif. also found the 95 Bank a productive fishing spot, taking a 110-pound sailfish and two dorado fishing from the San Lucas V. Yellowfin tuna gave Dave Stephenson, wife Sandy and son Jim at the Faro Viejo Bank. They shared in catching seven Cabo San Lucas yellowfin on a purple feather jig and live mackerel. Tucson, Ariz. angler Christopher Baskins and Kim Barber of California, also targeted small game fish, Baskins getting two yellowfin and a dorado, and Barber a 25-pound dorado.
Cabo San Lucas fishing captain of the week honors went to Adalberto Agundez of the San Lucas VI, who in five outings produced six striped marlin, nine dorado, 11 yellowfin and seven jacks. Total Cabo San Lucas fishing catch for the week in 62 outings by Solmar Sportfishing vessels included 16 striped marlin, nine released; 53 yellowfin tuna, 65 dorado, four wahoo, 17 skipjack and six sailfish, three released.
