FISHING IS SO-SO IN A WEEK OF STORMY SEAS

Sept. 17, 2004, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico Fishing:

While hurricane Javier passed fairly close to Cabo, it produced little activity other than lots of worry and a single port closure day on Friday. However, other than 15-20 knots of wind and some light rain, Cabo San Lucas remained virtually untouched as Javier slid-by.

Cabo San Lucas fishing was just so-so for the week, but better than the past two, offering about a 50 percent chance at billfish.

The most noticeable change was the wahoo bite for all of the Cabo San Lucas fishing boats, with lots of strikes and many artificials lost.

Overall Cabo San Lucas fishing counts reflected 1 blue marlin, 4 sailfish released, 11 stripers, (9 released) 8 wahoo, 33 dorado, 7 skipjack and 43 yellowfin tuna for 30 fishing days.

The better Cabo San Lucasfishing for the fleet was in the Gordo Banks area.

The "Fish Cabo" reporting for 3 fishing days, offered 2 sailfish released, 13 dorado, 1 wahoo & 1 yellowfin tuna and the "Juanita VIII" produced 2 sailfish released, 1 striper released, 2 dorado & 5 skipjack for 3 fishing days.

Cabo San Lucas Climate: Mostly cloudy with a bit of rain and wind, rather humid, temps from 76 nights to 95 daytime highs.

Cabo San Lucas Sea conditions: Port closed on Friday due to Javier, but otherwise good seas, big swell but fishable, temps from 83-86.5

Best Cabo San Lucas Fishing Area: The Gordo Banks region

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was best for the billfish and the dorado, with tuna taken on the feathers

Live Bait Supply: Good, all caballitos.
