CABO'S BILLFISH STILL SLEEPY BUT DORADO AND TUNA ARE BITING
Oct. 1, 2004, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
The billfish action continues to be in the doldrums this week, but Cabo San Lucas catches were supplemented well with dorado & yellowfin tuna and an occasional wahoo, with the boats averaging 4+ fish per boat day.
Reporting for 26 Cabo San Lucas fishing days reflected 4 stripers, (2 released) 2 sailfish, (1 released) 4 wahoo, 39 yellowfin tuna and 61 Dorado.
The Mike & Jana Coyle group of 4, Lewisville, TX, aboard the "Fish Cabo" for 2 days, reflected 1 sailfish released, 1 wahoo, 1 dorado and 13 yellowfin tuna. Their 3rd day for the week with another group, produced 1 blue marlin released, 1 sailfish released and 14 dorado.
The "Juanita VIII", fishing 1-day with the Tony Pemble party, (Adventure Sportfishing Group) landed 1 wahoo, 5 dorados and 1 striper for the group.
Cabo San Lucas Climate: Top-Notch weather with sunny and clear skies, temps from 72 at night to 95 daytime highs
Sea conditions: Excellent! Water temps remain consistent from the Golden Gate to Palmilla Ridge, in the 82-83 degree range and climb to 84-85 at the outer Gordo Banks.
Best Cabo San Lucas Fishing Areas: The Jaime and the Golden Gate Banks on the Pacific side
Best Lure/Bait: Live Bait was best for the billfish and dorado, especially with the drop-back baits for following dorado. The tuna, mostly in the 20-30 lb. range, were best on the bright colored feathers and cedar plugs.
