DORADO COUNTS SOAR FOLLOWING WINDS AND RAINS
Oct. 28, 2004, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas sportfishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
Early in the week, the boats experienced windy & rainy conditions which seemed to slow the effort, but the dorado counts soared this week and provided fairly easy limit fishing. Most of the dorado were in the 12-25 lb. ranges, with a few in the 35-40 lb. class. Some smaller fish were released.
Overall counts for 59 Cabo San Lucas fishing days reflected 1 small blue marlin released, 3 sailfish released, 12 stripers, (9 released) 1 mako shark, 5 wahoo, 41 yellowfin tuna, 16 skipjack tuna and 240 dorado.
Cabo San Lucas Climate: Rainy & windy in early week, but becoming good toward the week's end. Temps ranged from 67 nights to 90, daytime highs
Sea Conditions: Rough & windy during the early week, calming to PM breezes by mid to late week, temps ranged from 78 at Golden Gate to 83 at Gordo
Best Fishing area: Most of the dorado came from the Pacific side and around the corner to Gray Rock, with the billfish scattered about, but close to Cabo San Lucas.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was best for the billfish & sailfish, but the dorado were plenty eager to bite on the live bait, too, along with most anything else that moved through the water.
Live Bait Supply: Good supply of caballitos.
