PISCES FLEET CHARTER FISHING BOATS
AVERAGED ABOUT FOUR DORADO PER DAY

Nov. 6-12, 2004, Tracy Ehrenberg, Pisces Fleet, Cabo San Lucas fishing report, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Fishing for big game was rather quiet this week at Cabo San Lucas. It seems that we are entering a transitional stage, where blue and black marlin are coming to a close, sailfish are hanging in there, and striped marlin are due to make their appearance "en masse".

The Cabo San Lucas fishing catch rate figures were high for all species combined, at 91 percent, but once again the bulk of this was in dorado.

One nice catch that we neglected to mention last week was a 300-pound black marlin caught aboard a panga, "Little Hooker", by Michael Theodore, fishing with Tony Nungarey, both residents of Cabo San Lucas. The fish took a live skipjack and required a little over three hours to boat.

Don Hickman had a very decent day on November 7th, catching and releasing two striped marlin and two sailfish 26 miles out from Land's End, aboard "Valerie."

Another outstanding Cabo San Lucas catch was aboard "Ni Modo" for Tom Gallo and friends from New Jersey. They had a grand slam of a blue marlin, striped marlin, and sailfish, as well as eight dorado.

The next day out, "Adriana" had three sailfish for Jay Perry & Karne Rodden from Pedricktown, New Jersey.

After the 8th we had a couple of quieter days, although some Cabo San Lucas boats still produced a few sailfish and striped marlin.

Our catch rate for billfish this week ended up being low at 31 percent, consisting of 19 striped marlin, 15 sailfish, and one blue marlin; all but one striped marlin were released.

Clients were happy to reel in one dorado after another this week. The average catch was four fish, though many Cabo San Lucas fishing boats caught way more than this. Weights were from 15 to 35 pounds and they were found over a widespread area, but practically all were on the Pacific. Ninety-one percent of Cabo San Lucas charters caught dorado.

Tuna catches were way down, with just 14 percent of boats finding yellowfin. November 10th was the best fishing day, this is when Ken Sousa, aboard "Libre" caught ten tuna from 20 to 100 pounds, and a few other Cabo San Lucas charter boats caught as many as a dozen of the football size, at Golden Gate and San Jaime. Inshore there were a few roosters, dorado and needlefish.

LOCATION: Pacific, Land's End to Golden Gate, a couple of days billfish were found at Cabeza Ballena, on the Cortez side.

AVERAGE WATER TEMP: 78 F.

BEST LURES: Live bait, green/yellow, blue/white.
