FISHING AT CABO SAN LUCAS GOOD THIS
WEEK FOR TUNA, DORADO, AND BILLFISH
Nov. 18, 2004, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja fishing, Mexico:
Terrific dorado and yellowfin tuna fishing was reported this week at Cabo San Lucas and the billfish count shot up considerably, too. Overall Cabo San Lucas catches for 56 Gaviota Fleet boat days reflected 1 blue marlin, (Gaviota V) 32 stripers, (31 released) 1 wahoo, 2 skipjack, 137 dorado and 187 yellowfin tuna. Most of the dorado were in the 12-20 lb. ranges and the yellowfin tuna were mostly school fish in the 10-30 lb. ranges, with an occasional 50-60 lb. fish.
The better Cabo San Lucas fishing took place on the Pacific side of Cabo from the Golden Gate Bank and southerly to the Jaime Bank and south of Cabo Falso.
The "Fish Cabo" finished their engine renovation and finally got back to the fishing grounds for a couple of days, reflecting 2 stripers released and 8 dorado, (guess they didn't forget how to do).
The "Juanita VIII" reported for 7 fishing days and reflected 5 stripers released, 12 dorado and 4 yellowfin tuna.
Cabo San Lucas Climate: Partly Cloudy and a bit cool in the evenings, ranging from 61 to 85 degrees.
Cabo San Lucas Sea Conditions: Temps have fallen a bit, ranging from 75-78 degrees, with the Jaime & Golden Gate Banks holding at the higher temps at 78 degrees. Some PM chop on the Pacific side and nearly flat on the inside.
Best Cabo San Lucas Fishing Area: Continues to be on the Pacific side and south of Cabo Falso.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was best for the billfish and the dorado were mostly incidental catches on the artificials, while trolling around looking for billfish.
