FEWER ANGLERS PRESENT TO FISH IN
IMPROVING MARLIN ACTION AT CABO SAN LUCAS
Dec. 10, 2004, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
Marlin counts are rising at Cabo San Lucas but angler activity has slowed considerably, apparently getting ready for the Christmas Season.
High billfish boat for the week was the "Gaviota IV", producing a total of 15 stripers for 6 fishing days, and high tuna boat was the "Gaviota V", producing 58 yellowfin tuna for the week.
Overall counts reflected a total of 40 stripers, (31 released) 1 sailfish, 6 skipjack tuna, 34 dorado and 71 yellowfin tuna.
The "Fish Cabo", reporting for 3 fishing days reflected 4 stripers released and 2 dorado and the "Juanita VIII" reflected 3 stripers released and 6 dorado for 2 fishing days, (4 of the dorado were larger bulls in the 30-40 lb. range).
Cabo San Lucas Climate: Sunny & Clear, temps ranging from 61 nights to 82 daytime highs.
Cabo San Lucas Sea Conditions: Varied water temps from 71 at the Golden Gate to 73 at the Jaime and 75-75 from Cabo Falso to Gordo Banks.
Best Cabo San Lucas Fishing Area: Continues to be south of Cabo Falso at the drop-off and out several miles and another air area has been at the Cristobal Ridge.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait has been best with substantial drift fishing for the billfish at Cabo Falso.
Live Bait Supply: Continues to be good, mostly Greenback Mackerel and easy to replenish the supply at the banks and Falso.
