CABO CHARTERS AVERAGING BETTER
THAN A BILLFISH PER OUTING
Dec. 31, 2004, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
The billfish action continues to be above the 1 billfish per boat level at Cabo San Lucas and some fishing boats are having 3-4 fish days, with the better action being on the Pacific side of the peninsula.
The Gaviota Fleet, reporting for 34 Cabo San Lucas fishing days, reflected 38 striped marlin, 28 released) 28 dorado (mahi-mahi) and 6 yellowfin tuna. The "Fish Cabo", reporting for 4 fishing days, reflected 9 stripers released, 2 dorado & 2 yellowfin tuna and the "Juanita VIII" reflected 9 stripers released, 11 dorado and 1 wahoo for 7 fishing days.
Cabo San Lucas Climate: Lots of overcast/cloudy skies early in the week and even a little rain drizzle, but turning to sunny and warm at week's end with temps ranging from the cool, 56 degree nights to 80 at daytime highs.
Cabo San Lucas Sea Conditions: Good, stable water conditions prevailed throughout the area with sea water temperatures at 74-75 degrees for the most part and a 72-75 degree water temperature break at the upper end of the Golden Gate Bank.
Best Cabo San Lucas Fishing Area: Golden Gate to Jaime Bank and south of Cabo Falso, (Pacific side).
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait has been the hot ticket item, with lots of Pacific greenback mackerel at the banks and the Cabo Falso drop-off.
Live Bait Supply: Excellent, mostly mackerel and easy to replenish the supply at the local banks.
