MIXED FISHING RESULTS FOR CABO CHARTER BOATS
Jan. 28, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
The fishing at Cabo San Lucas has been a bit on the mixed side, one good day followed by a not so good day, along with some Pacific side sea surface temperature changes.
For those that fished on the good days, it was typically-Cabo San Lucas multiple billfish chances, but the off days were quite slow.
A drizzle day on Wednesday didn't help, either.
The "Fish Cabo", reporting for 3 fishing days reflected 2 striped marlin released, 2 dorado and 1 wahoo. The "Juanita VIII" reporting for 4 fishing days reflected 3 striped marlin released, all taken on one day, and 12 dorado (mahi-mahi).
Gaviota Fleet reporting for 37 individual fishing days reflected 22 striped marlin, 20 released, 1 sailfish, 8 dorado and 35 yellowfin tuna.
The "Gaviota I" had a 3-striped marlin release day fishing with Alex Acuna, and the David George group, Orange County, had a 3 striped marlin release day aboard the "Gaviota 4 & 7".
Cabo San Lucas fishing climate: following an early portion of the week with partly cloudy days and drizzle, the weekend cleared to sunshine with temps ranging from 57 nights to 79 daytime highs.
Cabo San Lucas Sea Conditions: Ocean water temperatures were at 69-70 close inshore and up to 72 degrees south of Cabo Falso around to Gordo Banks, with daily changing current conditions.
Best Cabo San Lucas Fishing Area: The Cristobal Ridge and south of Cabo Falso, about 5 miles.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was best for the billfish. The tuna were taken on the Porpoise with feathers.
Live Bait Supply: Still good, mostly Pacific mackerel.
