CABO BOAT SENOR DON LANDS A
120-POUND TUNA AT THE FINGER BANK
Jan. 24, 2005, Rod Albright, Senor Don, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
This past weekend we were fishing out of Cabo San Lucas with Don Giottionini on his boat Senor Don, a 34-foot Blackwatch, which is in Cabo San Lucas right now, when Don landed a 120-pound yellowfin tuna.
We were fishing at the Finger Bank about 50 miles northwest of Cabo San Lucas. We made bait at the Golden Gate bank on our way out to the Finger Bank. Within five minutes of our arrival on the bank we were hooked up. The big fish ate a fresh mackerel and the fight was on. Before we boated the tuna we spotted another striped marlin in the same size range but it was not as eager to eat so we did not hook him. I also caught a blue shark and a hammer head shark that same day, but no more tuna! Oh well, this was a big fat one and we were all happy. The seas in the fishing area off Cabo San Lucas were about normal for the Pacific, with some chop early then it laid down in the afternoon, a nice day. The ocean water temperature was 71 to 72 degrees.
