CABO SAN LUCAS SPORTFISHING BOATS AVERAGING 1 TO 2 MARLIN PER DAY

Feb. 11, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

The "Juanita VIII", reporting for 3 Cabo San Lucas fishing days, reflected 3 stripers released, 4 dorado and 2 yellowtail. The "Fish Cabo", reporting for 2 days reflected 2 stripers released and 1 dorado. The yellowtail are the first reported this year at Cabo San Lucas, taken near the San Cristobal area on the Pacific side and the catch indicates the cooling water trends on the Pacific.

The "GAVIOTA VII" was the high fishing boat for the week, reporting 11 Cabo San Lucas striped marlin for 6 fishing days, and followed by the "Gaviota XI", with 10 striped marlin for 6 fishing days. There was a good increase in the striper action as well as the yellowfin tuna. Overall, the Gaviota Fleet Cabo San Lucas charter fishing boats reflected 50 stripers, (42 released) 7 dorado (mahi-mahi) and 50 yellowfin tuna for 45 fishing days.

Cabo San Lucas Climate: Mostly cloudy through Thursday, temps 57-80, with rain projected for the weekend.

Sea Conditions: Cabo San Lucas Water temperatures were 68-70 degrees on the Golden Gate and Jaime Banks, and climbing to 73-74 degrees at the 95 spot and up to the outer Gordo Banks.

Best Cabo San Lucas Fishing Area: Scattered areas, with fish taken from south of Cabo Falso, on the 95, outside of Chileno and San Jose.

Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was best, but fair numbers of biters on the mackerel colored clones.

Live Bait Supply: Mostly mackerel and a good supply.
