TUNA, DORADO, AND MARLIN AVAILABLE
FOR CHARTER BOATS OFF CABO THIS WEEK
Feb. 3-9, 2005, Benjamin Ortega, Solmar Fleet, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
It has been sort of take-your-pick fishing in Cabo San Lucas waters the past few weeks, what with good catches of yellowfin tuna, dorado and marlin.
In fact, nearly everyone fishing Solmar fleet's vessels at Cabo San Lucas averaged at least one marlin during the week.
Menasha, WI, angler Tim Koll, took two striped marlin and four yellowfin while fishing out of Cabo San Lucas at the Faro Viejo Bank aboard the Solmar III.
Frank Kettman of Granville, IL. was another who took who a pair of marlin, along with two yellowfin. He fished the San Jose Bank aboard the Cabo charter fishing boat Solmar II.
Mark Debanova of New Jersey reported the crew of the El Torito put him on fish shortly after leaving the Cabo San Lucas marina. He responded with two striped marlin and one dorado.
Nancy Raisutis and Colleen Mulder were among the distaff set who made the billfish billboard. Mulder, of Grand Rapids, MI, was particularly pleased with the 110-pound marlin she caught.
"For 13 years I have been trying to get a big fish," Mulder stated. "Because of Tito and Arturo (crewmen on the San Lucas V), I finally caught a marlin."
Rausutis, of Palos Park, IL, fished the El Torito at the San Jose Bank where she caught a single striper and two dorado (mahi-mahi).
Karyl Price, of Stillwater, OK, was another who reserved praise for the Solmar IV crew, who she said worked extra hard to get her Cabo San Lucas striped marlin. Husband Richard settled for a lone dorado.
Dely Rood of Sturgis, MI, also praised the crew of the Solmar in putting him onto a striper at the Faro Viejo.
Cabo San Lucas captain of the week was Antonio Romero of the El Torito, who in five outings posted seven striped marlin, 17 yellowfin and 13 dorado.
Total Cabo San Lucas sportfishing catch, including releases, for the seven-day period was 49 striped marlin, 44 dorado, 76 yellowfin tuna and 23 sierra.
