SOLMAR BOATS FISHING UP CABO'S PACIFIC
SIDE AT FARO VIEJO AND THE JAIME BANK

Not even a drop in fishing water temperature nor a stiff southeast wind and 6-foot seas slowed the striped marlin bite in Cabo San Lucas waters this past week.

Live mackerel was the hot bait for marlin fishing.

Catches of two striped marlin per Cabo charter fishing boat were quite common, Solmar fleet skippers acknowledged. The bite was evenly divided between the Faro Viejo and Jaime banks.

John Thompson of Park River, ND was one of several solo Cabo San Lucas anglers who caught and released a pair of stripers. He also added a single dorado for the day, while fishing from the Solmar off the Faro Viejo.

Another lone rider who took two striped marlin was Jeff Link of Gilbert, AZ aboard the Cabo San Lucas charter fishing boat Solmar II at the Jaime.

Jerry and Rose Hutzel of Maineville, OH, and Jesus and Martha Borque of Madrid, Spain, represented the couples who shared in taking marlin.

The Hutzels caught their two striped marlin while fishing the Faro Viejo from the El Torito, while the Borques found their cooperative stripers at the San Jose Bank while fishing the Cabo boat Solmar IV.

The Jaime Bank produced single marlin catches for Dave Cermak of Cebron, IN, and Steve Brock of Calhoun GA. Cermak, who fished the San Lucas IV, added three yellowfin tuna to his score. Brock caught his striper aboard the Solmar VII.

Deanna Miller of Louisville, KY celebrated her fishing trip to Cabo San Lucas taking her first marlin while fishing the Faro Viejo aboard the San Lucas V.

Skipper Benito Peralta of the San Lucas V won captain of the week honors for producing eight marlin, 12 yellowfin tuna and 11 dorado in six outings.

The fleet's total Cabo San Lucas sportfishing catch for the week, including releases, was 55 striped marlin, 24 dorado (mahi-mahi), 37 yellowfin tuna, 25 sierra and 13 jacks.
