CABO SAN LUCAS CHARTER FISHING BOAT
JUANITA VIII AVERAGES TWO MARLIN PER DAY
Feb. 25, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
The "Juanita VIII" was our high Cabo San Lucas fishing boat for the week, reporting 12 stripers released, plus 10 yellowfin tuna, for 6 fishing days. The Cabo charter fishing boat "Fish Cabo reported 4 stripers released and 4 yellowfin tuna for 4 fishing days.
The Gaviota Sportfishing Fleet, reporting for 47 Cabo San Lucas fishing days reflected a total of 41 stripers, (38 released) 7 dorado (mahi-mahi), 27 yellowfin tuna and 4 skipjack tuna.
There was still good fishing south of Cabo Falso, but the wind kicked up and prevented the boats from fishing that area for the late part of the week. Good fishing for the Cabo San Lucas fleet was also reported into the Sea of Cortez, with a focus on the area outside of San Jose, 18-20 miles.
There was a good sea surface temperature break that ran along the 1000 fathom curve and extended from the Jaime Bank around to the 1150 spot, outside of San Jose and the fish seemed to be along that line.
Cabo San Lucas' climate was mostly sunny early in week and cloudy by the weekend, with temperatures from 59 degrees nights to 80 degree daytime highs
Cabo San Lucas sea conditions had water temperatures of 71 degrees inshore to 74 degrees offshore, with a distinct break along the 1000 fathom curve.
The best fishing area at Cabo San Lucas for yellowfin tuna was from the Jaime Bank area and for billfish from the area south of Cabo to the 1150, outside of San Jose about 20 miles
Live bait was truly necessary and even with a lot of fish showing, it was difficult to get them to bite.
