CABO BILLFISH ACTION STAYS BELOW PAR
IN SEASONALLY COOL WATER TEMPERATURES
April 1, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja Sur fishing, Mexico:
Cabo San Lucas fishing area water temperatures continue to keep the billfish bite below par, but that is not unusual for this time of year. While a few Cabo sportfishers were averaging about a billfish per boat day fished, for the most part, it was about 1 billfish for every third boat or so and the fish were a ways offshore of Cabo San Lucas.
The "Fish Cabo" reported for 4 fishing days, reflecting 3 stripers released, 3 yellowfin tuna, 1 wahoo & 1 dorado and the "Juanita VIII" reflected 4 stripers, (3 released) and 26 yellowfin tuna for 5 fishing days.
The Gaviota Fleet, reporting for 53 fishing days, reflected 16 stripers, 2 wahoo, 15 dorado and 99 yellowfin tuna.
Cabo San Lucas fishing weather was mostly sunny & warm, temps ranged from 62 nights to 87 daytime highs.
Cabo San Lucas Sea Conditions: Some windy days on the Pacific side. Temperatures were from 67-7l degrees, inshore from Cabo and warming up toward Gorda Point. Offshore temperatures were at 71-72 degrees at the 95 & 1150 and along the 1,000 fathom curve.
Best Cabo San Lucas Fishing Area: The 95 & 1150 were the best spots for the billfish and wahoo, while the tuna were running with the porpoise.
Live bait was a must for the billfish.
