CABO BILLFISH ACTION IS SPREAD OUT AND REQUIRES ATTENTION
April 8, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico Fishing:
It was little better fishing week at Cabo San Lucas, with about 50% of the sportfishing boats checking in with a billfish flag, but it was still spread over several areas and necessitated serious paying attention to get them on the line.
The overall Gaviota Fleet catches for 47 Cabo San Lucas fishing days reflected 21 stripers, (13 released) 3 wahoo, 17 dorado and 30 yellowfin tuna. The "Fish Cabo", reporting for 2 days, reported 1 dorado, 6 yellowfin tuna and 5 giant squid & the "Juanita VIII" reporting for 6 fishing days reflected 6 stripers released, 6 dorado and 4 yellowfin tuna.
Cabo San Lucas' fishing vacation area climate had some partly cloudy days, but generally very good weather, with temperatures ranging from 6l degree nights to 90 daytime highs
Cabo San Lucas sportfishing sea conditions had water temperatures at 67-69 degrees inshore with a very small patch of 71 degrees at Cabo and climbing to 7l degrees at the 1150 fathom spot and south of Cabo some 18 miles or so.
Best Cabo San Lucas Fishing Area: Early in the week, it was the 95 & as the water temperature cooled, it moved to the 1150 and to the south of the Arch, 5 to 20 miles. The live bait supply was mostly Caballitos.
