FISHING FOR STRIPED MARLIN ON THE
UPSWING FOR CABO CHARTER FLEETS

April 22, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas marlin fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico :

Striped marlin fishing at Cabo San Lucas picked up, considerably this past week and the water temperatures also improved. The "Fish Cabo", reporting for 5 fishing days, reflected 11 stripers released. The "Juanita VIII" was out of the water this week for annual maintenance and didn't fish. The Gaviota Sportfishers, reporting for 27 Cabo San Lucas fishing days, reflected 12 stripers, 1 dorado and 6 yellowfin tuna.

Cabo San Lucas sportfishing area weather had partly cloudy days with temperatures from 64 nights to 89 daytime highs.

Sea conditions at Cabo San Lucas were much improved on the Sea of Cortez side, with a distinct temperature break that ran northwest to southeast at Cabo Falso, and separating the two sides of the peninsula. On the Pacific side of Cabo San Lucas, the fishing water temperatures were 68-71 degrees, changing to 73-74 at the break.

The best Cabo San Lucas fishing area was outside La Laguna, 20-25 miles. Live bait was best but fair numbers of strikes were on Sevenstrand mackerel clones. The live bait supply at Cabo San Lucas was good, mostly caballitos.
