BILLFISH REMAINED COOPERATIVE
OVER THE FULL MOON FISHING PERIOD
April 29, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico Fishing:
Even with the constant cool-water upwelling changes and the full moon, the billfish remained fairly cooperative for most of Cabo San Lucas sportfishing boats this past week.
High charter fishing boat for the week was the "Gaviota X", reporting 7 billfish and 13 yellowfin tuna for 5 Cabo San Lucas fishing days, followed by the "Gaviota V", reporting 6 billfish, 4 dorado, 1 wahoo and 13 yellowfin tuna for 6 fishing days.
Overall counts for the Gaviota Fleet reflected 27 stripers, (22 released) 7 dorado and 39 yellowfin tuna for 37 fishing days. The "Juanita VIII" will go back to fishing on Tuesday, after major refurbishments. The "Fish Cabo" reported for 3 fishing days with 5 stripers released and will be undergoing maintenance for the next week.
Cabo San Lucas vacation area weather had 69-degree nights to 95 daytime highs, partly cloudy. Sea Conditions were ever changing! 67-69 degrees on the Pacific side and moving up to 72-73 on the Sea of Cortez side of Cabo San Lucas.
The best Cabo San Lucas fishing area was 20-25 miles outside Punta Gorda. Most of the billfish were taken on live bait cast to sleepers and the drop-back. The live bait supply at Cabo San Lucas remained okay, even through the moon.
