STRIPERS A STEADY PICK FOR SOLMAR BOATS
April 21-27, 2005, Benjamin Ortega, Solmar Fleet, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
There appears to be no letup in Cabo San Lucas striped marlin bite, now into its second week in waters off Cabo, as catch reports by the Solmar fishing fleet indicate.
Henry Garnet of Nantucket, MS, was one of the lucky Cabo San Lucas fishermen, taking three stripers on both lure and live mackerel. He fished the Solmar off Punta Gordo.
St. George, UT angler David Haas released both of the stripers he caught, while trolling a purple and black lure off Santa Maria while fishing from the Cabo San Lucas charter fishing boat Solmar IV.
A green-and-black lure fooled a 125-pound striper long enough for Ryan Lee of San Diego to bring it aboard the San Lucas VI which worked the Pacific Ocean side of the Cabo San Lucas vacation area.
John Waddle fished the San Lucas IV off Punta Palmilla where he bagged a 103-pound striper on live mackerel.
A live mackerel and 30-pound test line produced a 115-pound marlin for Jorge Solis of Los Angeles, CA. He fished off Chileno Bay area on the Cabo San Lucas charter fishing boat Solmar III.
Two others who fished live mackerel to nab marlin were Ralph Olsen of Palisades, N.Y., and Mike Pittinger of Reistertown, MD.
Olsen took a 120-pounder aboard the El Torito while fishing Pozo Cota. Pittinger fished the Solmar VII off Punta Palmilla.
Captain of the week honors went to Adalberto Agundez of the San Lucas VI, whose anglers in six Cabo San Lucas outings caught 5 striped marlin, 11 yellowfin tuna, nine dorado and 11 sierra.
Total catch for the week by the Solmar fleet, including releases, was 53 striped marlin, 24 yellowfin tuna, 37 dorado, 31 sierra and two wahoo.
