AMAZING DIFFERENCE IN WATER TEMPERATURES BETWEEN
THE CABO FALSO AND THE GORDO BANKS FISHING AREAS
June 3, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
An amazing change of water temperatures in the Cabo San Lucas vacation area, from 58 degrees at Cabo Falso (salmon catching water temperatures) to 74-75 degrees just above the Gordo Banks (good billfish water) popped-up on the Terrafin charts today and again reflected an unusual current that has rolled by Cabo and made fishing a little more difficult.
However, there have been some fair yellowfin tuna catches in a couple of different Cabo San Lucas fishing areas, making for good angler action.
The "Fish Cabo", reporting for 3 fishing days, reflected 1 striper released, 1 dorado & 14 yellowfin tuna & the "Fish Cabo I", reporting also for 3 fishing days, reflected 2 striper releases and 6 yellowfin tuna.
Gaviota Fleet, reporting for 37 Cabo San Lucas fishing days reflected a billfish for every other boat, reporting 18 stripers, along with 4 dorado, 1 sailfish, 2 wahoo and 29 yellowfin tuna.
Cabo San Lucas weather had 65 degree nights to 93 daytime highs, mostly sunny with westerly breezes. Sea conditions had incredible temperature changes from 57-58 degrees at Cabo Falso to 75-75 degrees just above the Gordo Banks.
Most of the fishing action came from the area surrounding the 95 fathom spot. The live bait supply was good, mostly mackerel.
