FISHING WAS DIFFICULT IN WATERS OFF
THE CABO SAN LUCAS VACATION AREA
June 10, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
Fishing is still difficult throughout the Cabo San Lucas vacation area, due to the cool water current that wraps around the lower end of the peninsula.
The "Fish Cabo", reporting in for 5 fishing days reflected 3 stripers released, 22 yellowfin tuna, 3 dorado, 3 roosterfish and 1 jack crevalle.
The "Fish Cabo I", reporting for 4 days reflected 2 stripers released, 1 dorado, 7 roosterfish, 4 sierra and 2 pargo.
The "Blacksheep III" reported releasing a small blue marlin, estimated at 200 lbs. early in the week and fishing near the Gordo.
Overall catches for the Gaviota Fleet, reporting for 55 fishing days, reflected 14 stripers, (10 released) 1 sailfish, 45 yellowfin tuna and 1 sierra.
Cabo San Lucas vacation weather was mostly sunny and warm, temps from 66 nights to 93 daytime high's.
Sea Conditions had west wind continuing but not as bad as last week. Temperature variations continue with wide changes from, 60 degrees at San Cristobal to Cabo Falso on the Pacific, to 69 at Cabo San Lucas, and increasing to 74 at the Inner Gordo Bank.
Best Fishing Areas at Cabo San Lucas: Roosterfish from Palmilla beach to Punta Gorda, stripers are scattered along the temperature breaks from Gorda Banks to Destiladeras, but no concentrations.
Live bait was very important for the billfish & roosterfish and the tuna hit on feathers and cedar plugs. The live bait supply was mostly mackerel.
