PLUME OF COLD FISHING WATER PLAGUING
CABO AREA MOVES FARTHER OFFSHORE
June 17, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
While a big plume of cold water is still in the Cabo San Lucas vacation area, it was staying farther offshore this week and allowed some of sportfishing boats to locate and better get on the fish.
The "Fish Cabo I", reporting in for 5 fishing days, released 14 stripers and 1 roosterfish, all in the area just above and outside the Gorda Banks.
The GAVIOTA SPORTFISHING FLEET reported in for a total of 45 fishing days, reflecting 15 stripers, (9 released) 1 mako shark, 3 dorado, 1 roosterfish and 39 yellowfin tuna.
In Cabo San Lucas weather, the northwest wind is persistent and continues, but the days are sunny, with temperatures from 65 degree nights to 93 daytime highs. Cabo San Lucas sea conditions were still rough on the Pacific and calming to the Sea of Cortez side. Water temperatures were much improved, ranging from 72 degrees at Cabo San Lucas and out, to the 95 spot, and warming to 75 degrees at the Gorda Banks and above. The best Cabo San Lucas fishing area was above and outside the Gorda Banks. Live bait was very important, although a few fish were taken on the mackerel colored artificials.
