COLD WATER PLUME OFF CABO HAS NEARLY DISSIPATED
June 24, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
The surface water temperature conditions are improving, almost daily, and the cold water plume that has jutted through the Cabo San Lucas vacation area has nearly dissipated, allowing for a better billfish bite.
While the inshore fishing water is a bit cooler than usual for this time of year at Cabo San Lucas, the offshore water is rapidly moving upward and stabilizing. Just a few more degrees will bring it to near perfect temperature conditions.
The "Fish Cabo", reporting for 2 Cabo San Lucas fishing days reflected 2 stripers released, 1 dorado and 12 yellowfin tuna.
The "Fish Cabo I", reporting for 6 fishing days, reflected 4 stripers released, 3 roosterfish and 1 dorado.
The Gaviota Sportfishing Fleet, reporting for 46 fishing days at Cabo San Lucas reflected a near 1 billfish per boat fished day, (43 stripers & 39 released) 1 wahoo, 2 dorado and 108 yellowfin tuna.
Cabo San Lucas Climate: Still blowing from the Northwest, but not with the briskness of the past several weeks. Mostly sunny and warm, nights down to 69 degrees and daytime highs at 92-95.
Sea conditions are much improved and less wind, too. Temps ranging from 70 inshore to 75 offshore, with the warmer water on the Sea of Cortez side.
Best Cabo San Lucas Fishing Area: The billfish and tuna were mostly south of Cabo Falso and around the "95", 10-15 miles offshore.
Best Lure/Bait: Live bait was very important for the billfish, while the tuna were fairly eager to bite on the feathers.
