GOT CAUGHT SPORTFISHING REPORTS FOR CABO SAN LUCAS WATERS
June 24, 2005, Todd Hochstedler, Got Caught Fishing, Cabo San Lucas Fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
Starting with Sunday, the 31-foot Bertram, Got Caught, caught & released 4 marlin in the Sea of Cortez side of Cabo San Lucas, fishing just out from the 1150 spot. The four anglers from Charlotte, NC, Michael Bottoms, Edwin Woods, Todd Erwin & Chris Beard, all got their marlin and even returned a bit early. They were after marlin that day and that's all they caught.
On Monday the 20th, Steven Brown and family from Las Vegas, NV, area caught 6 tuna and 1 dorado. The largest tuna was about 35#s. They fished the Pacific area.
Tuesday, Paul Deluca from the San Francisco, CA, area fished with his daughter Devin and owner of Got Caught, Todd Hochstedler & Seaver, and went looking for the big tuna that had been reported the past couple days. We knew it was going to be a good day when we turned on the bait tank pump as we edged around the dock and about 5 seconds later a fish about a foot long jumped right into the boat! We went out towards the 1150 area again, where the reports of a couple big tuna had been caught the day before. About an hour & a half into the trip the trip we caught the first nice tuna that Paul landed and was about 110#s. It took about 20 minutes to land. A little later we found the porpoise again an a couple minutes later I got the bigger one which weighed about 160#. Took about the same time to land it. They were both caught on marlin sized jigs trolled into the porpoise school. And about an hour later we saw a marlin leaping wildly all over the place. We ran up to try to catch it. After about 10 minutes we gave up. As we were letting out the last line to begin trolling again the jig just took off. About 10 minutes later the 80ish pound wahoo was boated. We called it an early day after that.
Wednesday was a poor day out there. The Cabo San Lucas fishing water was fairly calm but the fish just didn't want to hit on the full moon, I'd guess. Saw couple marlin only and lots of schools of porpoise but no tuna hit.
Thursday the 23rd, saw 7 tuna caught. Three were about 40, 50 & 60#s respectively with the others quite a bit smaller.
On the dock another fleet of 4 Cabo San Lucas charter fishing boats had a nice day yesterday, Thursday. One of the boats found some floating seaweed and had a field day of 6 or 7 wahoo and about 10 dorado. They radioed another boat from their fleet and they ended up with the other number on the wahoo and several dorado, too. Earlier they had caught about 10 tuna.
On about Wednesday another Cabo San Lucas sportfishing charter on our dock caught 4 dorado, 15 tuna and 4-5 skipjack. Though the full moon has been this week the fishing for most of our customers was quite good. We have boats that range primarily from 31 feet to 34 feet with very good, English speaking crews. www.GotCaughtInCabo.com is our contact and we'll let you know how the fishing has been and what to expect. American owned boats/fleets and simple, straight forward answers. If fishing is slow then that's what we'll let you know.
