CABO SAN LUCAS BILLFISH ACTION IMPROVES
IN WARMING SUMMER TEMPERATURES
July 15, 2005, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters fishing report, Cabo San Lucas, Baja Sur, Mexico:
Climbing summer temperatures and warming waters in the Cabo San Lucas vacation fishing area are beginning to move the action upward, especially for the billfish.
"Fish Cabo", reporting for 3 fishing days reflected 3 stripers released and a sailfish released. The "Fish Cabo I" reporting for 5 days reflected 9 stripers released and 2 dorado. The Gaviota Fleet, reporting for 37 Cabo San Lucas fishing days, reflected 28 stripers, (21 released) 1 sailfish, 7 dorado and 33 yellowfin tuna.
Cabo climate was sunny and warming up, with temperatures from 73 nights to 100 daytime highs.
Cabo San Lucas fishing water is finally warming and stabilizing, ranging from 77 degrees at Cabo to 82 at Los Frailes on the Sea of Cortez side, and 74-77 from Golden Gate Bank to Jaime Bank and back into Cabo on the Pacific side.
The 1150 spot on the Sea of Cortez side has been very productive for the billfish. Live bait was best, but quite a few fish are now seriously looking at the artificials and drop-backs are doing well.
