CABO FISHING BY SOLMAR FLEET PRODUCES
29 BLUE MARLIN AND 31 STRIPED MARLIN
Sept. 15-21, 2005, Benjamin Ortega, Solmar Fleet, Cabo San Lucas fishing, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
Fishing from the Solmar off Punta Gorda, Cabo San Lucas angler Karl Anderson of Hill Falls, MT caught a 476-pound blue marlin, six dorado and released a sailfish and two striped marlin. In praising the Solmar skipper, Javier Abaroa, Anderson called him "the best of the Solmar fleet." That's something most of us have known for a long time.
Capt. Abaroa's outstanding catches this week that included 10 striped marlin, seven blue marlin, 16 yellowfin tuna, 11 dorado, four sailfish and one wahoo in five outings won him captain of the week laurels.
Anglers Edmundo and Alejandro of Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico, fished the Solmar I at Chileno Bay, where they caught a 210-pound blue, along with two sailfish and a single striped marlin which they released. All their fish were taken on live mackerel.
Ron Regel and Mark Rock of Bullhead City, AZ, bagged a 400-pound Cabo San Lucas blue marlin and released two striped marlin on that same red-yellow lure, while fishing the El Torito off the Golden Gate Bank.
Erick and Michelle Fuller of Smyrna, GA, also had good luck fishing the Golden Gate Bank, where they caught a sailfish and blue a blue marlin which they released, but kept two dorado.
George Reese, Rose and Jay Gobble of Brandon, FL fished the Solmar VI off the Pozo Cota, where they shared in taking a single striped marlin and two 40-pound dorado.
