LOTS OF TUNA AND SLIGHTLY FEWER MARLIN CAUGHT BY CABO BOATS

Marlin fishing at Cabo San Lucas tailed off a bit during the past week, but there were a couple of outstanding marlin catches and lots of yellowfin tuna taken.

Three striped marlin were caught by Robert Johnson of Portland, Ore. Fishing aboard the Solmar I, Johnson took his fish off the Cerro Colorado and Faro Viejo. He also caught four yellowfin tuna weighing from 15 to 48 pounds, and three large dorado from 20 to 50 pounds. His fish were taken on a mix of lures and bait.

John Newman of Welches, Ore., worked off Punta Palmilla and Cerro Colorado, where he caught a 185-pound striped marlin and two large dorado weighing 40 and 52 pounds. He fished the San Lucas IV.

The top marlin catch of the week was a 345-pound blue caught by Alexander R of Houston, TX. He added two dorado weighing 15 and 30 pounds, fishing the Cerro Colorado.

The top tuna catch was made by Fernando Collins of San Diego. He caught and released 35 yellowfin from 15 to 35 pounds, plus two dorado of 15 and 30 pounds, all taken off Cerro Colorado from the Solmar VII.

Minnesota angler Bob Gordon, fishing on the Cabo San Lucas charter boat Solmar IV, caught four yellowfin and two dorado, one topping 40 pounds. All his fish were taken on live mackerel.

Solar Fleet's captain of the week honors went to Federico Marron on the Solmar I who caught 12 Cabo San Lucas striped marlin, 24 yellowfin tunas, and 32 dorados in 7 outings.

The total catch for the Solmar Fleet during fishing at Cabo San Lucas this week was: 31 striped marlin, 6 blue marlin, 39 dorados, 45 yellowfin tunas.
