CAPT. MARIO ARBALLO OF THE CHARTER BOAT SOLMAR IV
IS SOLMAR FLEET'S TOP SKIPPER OF THE WEEK
Oct. 28-Nov. 1, 2005, Benjamin Ortega, Solmar Fleet, Cabo San Lucas, Baja Sur, Mexico Fishing Report:
For this week's abbreviated fishing report for Cabo San Lucas, covering five fishing days, striped marlin held the angling spotlight, plus the rare catch of broadbill swordfish.
Total catch in 53 Cabo San Lucas sportfishing outings by the Solmar fishing fleet included 27 striped marlin, 14 released, three blue marlin, one swordfish, 25 yellowfin tuna, 36 dorado and one sailfish.
Tom Robinson of Oklahoma said the 301-pound blue marlin that he caught on a black and purple lure gave him all he could handle during a particularly long battle. He fished the Solmar IV off the Pacific side of Cabo, where he also caught two dorado weighing 15 and 23 pounds.
Michigan angler Prentise released two of three striped marlin he caught, along with a pair of dorado weighing 20 and 45 pounds. He fished the Punta Gorda area aboard the Cabo San Lucas charter fishing boat Solmar.
The swordfish was taken at the Golden Gate Bank by Randy Tralan of Montrose, CO, who added a striped marlin and two dorado to his catch aboard the Solmar VII. He released the marlin but kept the broadbill, which weighed 79 pounds.
San Francisco angler William Enbluand released a striped marlin and four yellowfin tuna, fishing the same Golden Gate Bank aboard the El Torito.
The Golden Gate Bank also produced a striper and three dorado to 38 pounds for Ben Newman of Phoenix, AZ. All his fish were taken on live mackerel , while fishing the Solmar IX.
A catch of three yellowfin tuna to 20 pounds, plus a 27-pound dorado seemed sufficient to satisfy Mr. Ginder of Miami, FL, according to his catch report filed with the San Lucas IV. He fished off Chileno Bay and Punta Palmilla.
Kristy Ramos of Los Angeles, CA, boated four dorado to 35 pounds - all taken on live sardines and mackerel off the Gordo Bank. She fished on the San Lucas IV.
Top Solmar Fleet skipper honors for the above period was Mario Arballo of the Solmar IV, whose passengers in six outings caught nine striped marlin, one blue marlin, 12 yellowfin tuna and 23 dorado.
