CABO SAN LUCAS STRIPED MARLIN FISHING IS GOOD
AT THE FINGER BANK BUT THAT'S ABOUT 50 MILES NORTH
Nov. 11-17, 2005, Tracy Ehrenberg, Pisces Fleet, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur sportfishing report, Mexico:
The Cabo San Lucas sportfishing vacation area had another outstanding week for striped marlin with boats catching from one to twelve fish in a day.
The only problem is that the very best striped marlin action has been at the Finger Bank located over 50 miles away. Cabo San Lucas charter fishing operators are beginning to feel the pinch in fuel costs and some are charging extra to go the extra 20 miles beyond the normal day fishing grounds, but it is usually well worth it.
Pisces Fleet had many boats with multiple striped marlin days resulting in a marlin catch success rate of close to 92 percent. Usually to get a mention in the fish report, you need to catch three marlin in a day; this week it had to be six or more.
"Blue Thunder" a 60 foot Hatteras, totaled 12 releases and 3 Dorado at the Middle Finder on November 12th.
"Happy Boy" caught 11 plus 2 dorado, for Eulalio Gonzalez and friends from Benton City, WA.
John Eves from Ontario, Canada fished with Christopher Bergler from buffalo NY and totaled 17 Cabo San Lucas striped marlin and 2 dorado during two days of fishing aboard "Tracy Ann".
C-Rod, a 38 foot Blackfin, did well for Pablo Broussain and Michael & Brian Buckley with 6 releases, a 60 lb wahoo, and 2 dorado.
"Ruthless" scored 6 for the Licursi family, as well as 4 dorado.
The following day "Ruthless" was our top boat with 8 releases for Julian Josey and Claude Finney from South Carolina.
On November 16th "Yahoo" battled a huge black marlin 20 miles out from Los Arcos. After a lengthy fight the fish estimated at close to 900 pounds was released.
Pisces Fleet anglers caught a total of 197 striped marlin this week at Cabo San Lucas of which 193 were released. Those brought in weighed from 120 to 140 pounds. Our overall catch success rate for al species combined was 92 percent.
There were quite a few dorado caught this week. Fifty percent of charters caught between one and four fish in the 15 to 40 pound class. They were found with the marlin and some concentrations were found at the Golden Gate Bank, where a few boats caught up to 10 dorado.
Yellowfin tuna catches were quite a bit slower at Cabo San Lucas with just seven percent of Pisces Fleet charters finding fish in the 30 to 70 pound class. Wahoo catches were fair, with fish from 35 to 70 pounds, usually incidental catches whilst trolling for marlin. Inshore pangas caught roosters, black and white skipjack and some needlefish.
The best Cabo San Lucas fishing locations were from Los Arcos to the Finger Banks, with Golden Gate and Finger Banks the best spots
Weather conditions were perfect, with clear sunny skies, calm seas, and beautiful sunrises. Average water temperature 77-78 degrees.
