MARLIN FISHING IS CLOSE TO CABO HARBOR AND THE 1150 SPOT

June 9, 2006, Larry Edwards, Cortez Yacht Charters fishing report, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:

Good billfish catches were reported from two separate Cabo San Lucas areas, just 2 miles out of the Cabo harbor, and the at the 1150 fathom spot vicinity, about 15 miles to the east.

Most of the yellowfin tuna were taken with the porpoise and the bulk of that action came from the temperature breaks at 15 to 18 miles south of the Hotel Finisterra.

The Gaviota Fleet, reporting for 34 charter fishing days, reflected 23 stripers, (19 releases), 3 sailfish released, 5 sharks, 3 wahoo, 13 dorado and 46 yellowfin tuna. The "Gaviota III" checked in as high boat for Gaviota Fleet with 6 billfish for 3 days fished.

The charter boat "Fish Cabo", reporting for 5 days fished, had 7 stripers released, 2 sailfish released, 5 dorado and 1 wahoo.

The "Fish Cabo I", reporting for 4 fishing days, had 6 stripers released, 18 yellowfin tuna and 1 dorado.

The billfish are just outside the harbor a couple miles and also at the 1150 fathom spot.

Cabo San Lucas weather remains sunny and warm, with temperatures from 70 degree nights to 99 degree daytime highs. Cabo had breezy sea conditions on the Pacific side and very cold water just outside Cabo Falso that butted up to 75 degree water that rises to 85 degrees by Chileno Bay and outside. The Sea of Cortez direction has had good fishing and calm conditions.

Yellowfin tuna are out to the south of Cabo at about 15 miles, and running with the porpoise. The 95 fathom spot has kicked out some fair tuna catches this week too. Most of the yellowfin tuna are school size fish of 15 to 25 pounds, but a few bigger fish being taken on live bait too.

Artificials lures are seeing some fair striper action and the drop-backs are working very well. Live bait on the sailfish is best. The live bait supply continues to be good.
