VERY GOOD STRIPED MARLIN FISHING ON THE PACIFIC SIDE
Dec. 15, 2006, Mike Connolly, charter fishing boat Falcon, Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico:
There was very good striped marlin fishing in Cabo San Lucas this week.
As the full moon passed, the stripers became active and hungry. The lighthouse produced big time for Cabo fishing boats drifting bait early in the week.
The boat Summertime, Martin Vitil, had a 10 fish day and a 7 fish day, for example.
Lots of boats had 4 or more striped marlin at Cabo Falso.
The Falcon fished at the Golden Gate Bank on Tuesday and Wednesday, with 14 hookups each day, drifting mackerel to metered fish.
There was almost no surface action or birds. We had 4 triples, with 10 striped marlin released on Tuesday and 9 striped marlin released on Wednesday, for 3 anglers.
We also had a dorado each day.
There were lots of good scores throughout the week for Cabo San Lucas boast fishing at the Gate.
The Success, Keven Puhl, had what must have been the best bite of the month as his guys released 18 stripers on Thursday to top the fleet.
There were other boats with their best totals of the winter at the Golden Gate as well, with 4 to 5 fish being kind of on the light side.
Not many Cabo San Lucas fishing boats were making the run to the Finger Bank but one that did, Bottom Line, T.J. Dobson, reported 8 stripers.
Yellowfin tuna were also around but not every day. A shutout can happen and it is by no means certainty that you will find the porpoise, but if you need a tuna fix odds are reasonably decent. Allow a couple of days for tuna.
For striped marlin it is a lock right now at Cabo San Lucas.
