TWO-DAY CASTRO'S CAMP TRIP SCORES ON WHITE SEABASS TO OVER 40 POUNDS
Sept. 16, 2004, Dario Rodriguez, Castro's Camp, Erendira, Baja California, Mexico:
We went on a two-day trip out of Castro's Camp in beautiful Erendira, Baja California, Mexico. We got to Castro's Camp last Friday night, unloaded our gear and immediately began filling our energy back up with a few 12 packs of Tecate.
Saturday morning we all woke up with a mean hangover, so we grabbed a few more Tecates for breakfast and made sure we had plenty for the boat.
We fished with Castro's Camp's El Capitan Jorge Jr, great captain. We told him we wanted WSB and so he took us to the spot. We were constantly moving, following the birds and the bait of mackerel and other species.
Our party was getting nice size 'cudas for the first hour or so before Son Ly, "The Asian Bomber," landed the biggest WSB for our trip, a 40-plus pounder, beautiful fish. That first Castro's Camp fishing day we ended up with 4 nice WSB and a cooler full of bottom fish, lings, rockfish, sand bass, and a couple of BIG sheephead.
On day two, it started off pretty much the same, hungover, Tecates for breakfast, and off we went for some more WSB. Some of us were dropping all the way to the bottom having some fun with the rockfish, and others were still trying to land some WSB. More nice 'cudas were being brought to the boat, and we did land a few more WSB. The biggest one of the second day estimated at about 26 lbs. On this day we had $30 on the line with another party that was there fishing. They took the pot with a nice WSB weighing in well over 40 lbs.
We finished our mini Castro's Camp vacation with Carne Asada on a nice a hot grill. We had Salsa, Guacamole, some ice cold beer and the sunset in the back to complete our trip. Great time in Erendira and we have definitely become regulars in this great fishing village.
