Senior Anglers Baja Trip To Fish At Castro's Camp
Feb. 18, 2005, Lee Wood, Oceanside Senior Anglers, Erendira, Baja California, Mexico:
Fourteen Oceanside Senior Anglers led by Fred Kaczmarek as Charter Master, went down to Castro's Camp for two days of fishing out of Erendira.
We left on Valentine's Day and fished the 15th and 16th. Erendira fishing weather was mostly on our side. Both days were calm and we only had a little rain on Tuesday, and Wednesday was a beautiful day.
We caught some sheephead around 5 pounds, lingcod to 9 pounds, and nice red rockcod, along with many bottom fish, and also a calico bass at 6.4 pounds caught by Lee Wood.
There were also some giant squid in the 35 to 45-pound range caught also. The sea surface water temperature was 56 to 57 degrees and the fishing was slow at times, but we all had a great time. The anglers that caught the squid were Roger Davis, Don Maquet and Hal Reeser. The rest of the Oceanside Senior Anglers were Rod Morris, George Ruble, Walt Soper, Jay Perry, Van Vandermeer, Marvin Van Voorst, Mike Mercado, Vern Francis and Chuck Berridge.
