FISHING WITH CAPT. WALDO OF CASTRO'S CAMP
April 26, 2005, Chris Kugel, Castro's Camp, Erendira, Mexico Fishing Trip Report:
I went to my place at Castro's Camp, with two good friends, fishing on Friday the 15th. The swell was large, the fog very thick, and the fishing so-so. We had a great time with Waldo, as always. He has one of the new boats with a 115-hp 4-stroke Johnson engine. It's quiet and stable, no speed merchant but nice. Fernando now has three new boats in operation with plans for more.
Capt. Waldo is married to Fernando Castro's sister Adela. She is the lady who runs the office. Waldo's real first name is Ubaldo, but for the ease of the gringos it's Waldo.
We caught mainly reds, with some lingcod, one of which was caught by my British buddy John Bird a retired British fire officer who came over the pond for my retirement party. His was the big fish of the day a 12 pound lingcod. We also caught one bocaccio, chuckle heads, and a big barber pole.
The people who went out Saturday had great weather, clear and calm with flat seas. Most of the boats caught what we did on Friday, but two had some real good luck. One boat got into the large barracuda and for them it went wide open. The other boat found calicos in good numbers and size. Two of the fish were in the 6 to 7 pound range.
