GOOD DECEMBER BONITA AND BOTTOM FISHING OUT OF CASTRO'S CAMP
Dec. 10, 2006, Robert Everett, Castro's Camp trip, Erendira, Baja California, Mexico:
Reporting from Erendira, Dec. 8-9th, under perfect conditions for December, no wind and sunny all day. The water temperature was 62 degrees, and the swells were very minimal.
On Friday, I fished by myself, filling a large ice chest with a mixed bag of whitefish, red rockcod, sandbass and lingcod
On Saturday, I fished with my 2 guests, Roy Tienda and John Kashiki, from Fresno, California.
John caught the big fish of the day a 10 pound lingcod. We caught mainly whitefish at depths to 260 feet on jigs tipped with squid.
Our fishing captain, Oscar Barrios, let us troll back to Castro's Campo with excellent results on bonita, not good to eat but very fun to catch. The bonita were up to 8 pounds and finished the trip off with a lot of excitement.
Several times we had hookups when trolling as soon as our Rapalas started moving.
All in all, it was a very good trip to Castro's Camp, with a lot of excitement at the end giving me that good old "can't wait to go fishing again" feeling.
