GOOD BAJA FISHING RUN TO CASTRO'S CAMP
Feb. 19, 2007, Brent Tavernelli, Castro's Camp, Erendira, Baja California, Mexico:
I'm reporting on a fantastic Baja fishing trip to Castro's Camp. Our group of eight enjoyed beautiful weather and fantastic fishing.
We stayed the weekend of Feb. 16th-28th, fishing on Saturday, Feb. 17th.
First group consisted of myself, Brent Tavernelli, Spring Valley, Joe Leon, San Diego, Tony Perkins, Spring Valley, and John Perry, Tehachapi, who fished with Capitan Oscar, and Luis Miguel, his 12 year old son and deckie, on the Don Vicente.
The other group fished on the boat Castro #4. They consisted of BJ Nadon, Tehachapi, John Ruziecki, Tehachapi, Ryan Gault, San Marcos, and Len Haas, San Marcos.
Both of our groups enjoyed heavy counts of the usual rockfish species with about 80 percent reds, some quite large.
Other rockfish species included, starry, flag, honeycomb, bocaccio, squarespot, copper, and brown.
We also encountered whitefish, sheephead, lingcod and a few 40 pound Giant squid.
I can't say enough about the summer-like Baja coastal sea conditions at Erendira, hooking up left and right while watching whales all around us.
Mucho pescado y muy tranquilo.
