Marine layers still persist in the San Quintin sportfishing area, with clouds and fog in the evenings and sunny skies around midday. Air temperatures near the coast rose to the 70s, and dropped to the 60s at night and in the mornings. Winds from the northwest ranged from 12 knots in the mornings to 20 knots in the evenings. Waves were pretty constant off San Quintin, at 2 feet, and swells at 5 feet. Water temperatures at San Quintin dropped from 61 to 59 degrees. Water color around the 180 spots and 240 spots was murky, but towards El Socorro the fishing water is very clear.
Regardless the conditions that persisted in the area, San Quintin fishermen kept bringing limits and near limits on bottom fish, especially rockcod, lingcod, and bocaccio. Those who went fishing in the Socorro area scored big on calico bass, and barracuda.
The boats have gone fishing daily, but not many of them. We know things will improve when the weather gets warmer.
Bob Jungkind, Victor Ochoa, and Jeff Slatier of Los Angeles went fishing at the 240 spot and the 180 spot on the Ana from Don Eddie's Landing. Their captain was Antonio on El Gato, and had very good catches on bocaccio, lingcod and red rockcods. They used live bait and frozen squid. They fished at a depth of 180 to 220 feet.
Don't forget our fishing tournaments that will be held on July 2-3, and September 3-4.
